Understanding Computer Science 2019
Due to the fact that technology is constantly evolving, it can be difficult to pinpoint a solid definition for the specializations in the dynamic field of computer science. Computer Science has typically been understood as the study of solving computer problems. The elementary pursuits of computer science include the following questions: What are the computer problems that need solutions? How can the computer be made more efficient, faster, and accessible to scientists and the basic user? How can we utilize science to give computers a more viable artificial intelligence? The study of computer applications in a social context is called information technology. This involves information security, networking, and using computers as a sales, marketing or business tool. To really get an understanding of the many branches and terminology of the computer sciences is available in the educational realm. Examining the multitude of degrees at ones disposal related to the field can help to familiarize you with the business and the study of computer science. .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45 { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45:active, .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45 { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45 .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45 .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u4dce2377373f947076314c874b1ead45:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Getting Your Health Care Management EducationNumerous universities commit entire departments to computer science, and others create departments that stem from general computer science. Others schools, usually traditional universities, offer computer development studies along with engineering. Subcategories of information technology and computer science are reflected well in online college curricula. Many online schools, such as Boston Universitys Metropolitan College, offer bachelors and masters degrees in the field. Warren National University offers an online degree in computer science, as well as bachelors degrees in software engineering, e-business, management information systems, and e-commerce. The university also offers study programs and degrees for those already in the field, or someone new to the discipline. The University of Phoenix Online provides bachelors degree programs in e-business and information systems. The university also has degree programs for information technology alone or with a concentration in visual communications. Masters programs available at Phoenix Online include technology management, information systems, and information systems management. .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c:active, .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .ub8946bc2f2dd6d18da185e59e233a52c:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Careers in Health Care ManagementThe U.S. Department of Labor website offers detailed information on the job responsibilities and the salary ranges and more of computer scientists and related careers (http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos042.htm). The Implementation Of Population Control Against Poverty
In 1798, Malthus wrote extensively on the implementation of population control against poverty. The idea of curbing population growth is not new, but it has only joined the environmental discourse over the course of the last century. As science and technology advance, humanity has succeeded in overcoming natural growth limits but not in sustainably addressing anthropocentric environmental issues. Each human places additional strain on the environment and contributes to its degradation. Therefore, non-coercive population control should be instituted more extensively. Increased population control can effectively slow involuntary population growth. Historically, policies have taken on two major forms. One involves authoritarian enforcement, such as Chinaââ¬â¢s One Child Policy or Indiaââ¬â¢s sterilizations. The other, which this author espouses, includes media campaigns, sex education, reduction of infant mortality, and increased access to contraceptives and abortion . Jeffrey Sachs, head of the UN Millennium Project, calls for this ââ¬Å"integrated and non-coercive approach that would concomitantly reduce poverty.â⬠Currently, over 50% of pregnancies are unwanted and 40% of these end in aborted (Sedgh, 2014). The rate is 23% higher in less developed nations (ibid). Global access to contraceptives could prevent over 52 million unwanted pregnancies per year, yet one in four women have no legal access (Gipson, 2008; Sedgh, 2007). Another 74,000 die each year during illegal abortions (UNFPAShow MoreRelatedDemographics Paper1308 Words à | à 6 Pagesmeans the records of the human population in a country. Benefits Of Health Essay Example For Students
Benefits Of Health Essay The importance of sleep, nutrition, and exerciseMany students today ask why they are so tired all the time. It also seems that people in college become more stressed out either because of grades or because of work. All people need to do is get the right amount of sleep, eating well, and exercise in order to feel better about themselves and feel good in general. This is not a short process. Most experts say that it takes about twelve weeks in order to see results. But, it is guaranteed that after that duration of time one will see a vast improvement in oneself. Sleep is something that most people take for granted. It is the one thing that people are willing to compromise even more then food or money. It is estimated that between 40 to 60 million Americans are sleep deprived. Different people can get by with different amounts of sleep. There are some that can survive the next day with only a few hours. Then there are always others who cannot be called after 9:00 because they need those good solid 10 hours. The average person actually needs anywhere from between 7-9 hours a night. Why does one need sleep? When human bodies do not get enough sleep they tend to lose strength, the immune system decreases, and there is an increase in blood pressure. As students, it can effect concentration, memory, logical reasoning, and ability to do math. Now that the problem is known here is how to fix it. Dr. Stanley Coren, a professor of psychology at the University of British Columbia, focuses on consistency. The body needs consistency. This can be fulfilled by simply going to bed at the same time every night and waking up at the same time every day. But, it is important to note that making up for lost sleep on the weekends is a big negative. It is preferable that if one likes to sleep on the weekends wake up at the same time Saturday and Sunday. When going to bed it should take about 15 to 20 minutes to fall asleep. If a half-hour has gone by and one still is not asleep one sho uld get up and do something relaxing (i.e. take a warm bath, read, watch TV, etc.).Rita Mattson, a Certified Personal Trainer and Stress Management Counselor, makes the suggestion of drinking warm milk before retiring to bed because milk contains a high dosage of L-tryptophan which is a natural sedative. Sleep is just as important as any other part of taking good care of ones self. Another key aspect is nutrition. Nutrition is the main thing that keeps the body working. So, if one wants to keep the body working at a certain pace it needs to be fed. But, one needs to know the right foods. Think of the body as a car. People drive cars every day and some people are fast drivers who like to go above the speed limit and others are slower. Nevertheless, all cars need gas sooner or later. So, the owner of the car takes the car to the gas station and now he needs to make a decision on which type of gas to put into the car. He knows that he cannot use diesel because his car cannot run on die sel gas. The choices are now unleaded, super unleaded, or supreme unleaded. Every car driver knows that the better quality of the gas the better the car drives and performs. Bodies are the same way. Know not to use diesel. But, when it comes to the other gases one has to think what does the car need to perform its best. For that reason, there is the nutrition pyramid to tell us what our bodies need the most and the least of. It is important to incorporate refined carbohydrates, proteins, vegetables, and fruit to ones diet everyday to ensure that the body works. The body also needs some sugar and fat. Today, people focus on non-fat foods. Sometimes these are not good for the body because in order to make something natural fat-free you have to put in chemicals to alter the original make up of the food. Chemicals are difficult for you body to digest therefore in a case like this it is best to go natural. Another reason that one needs to eat some fat and sugar is because this is what th e body burns when you exercise. Exercise is what separates the boys from the men. In other words this is the number one thing that must be done to maintain a healthy body. First, one needs to know their body and what their body can endure. That depends on age, weight, and current level of fitness. The last factor determines how fast ones body burns fat. Second, figure the basal metabolism rate (BMR). The formula for that, according to Margaret Deutsch, is for adult males: weight in pounds times 12; for females: weight in pounds times 11. Also, for every 10 years older than 20 one should lower the result by 2%. Next, understand that different programs work for different people. People tend to go by the fad when it comes to picking an exercise program. Do some shopping around to see which exercise is not only fit for you but also is something that you will enjoy. Aerobic exercise is an example. Aerobic exercise is exercise, which essentially uses aerobic pathways to provide energy to the muscles involved. It is sometimes called a endurance exercise which means that the heart rate is raised to 70 to 85% of your age predicted Maximum Heart Rate (MHR), and held at that point for a uninterrupted 20 to 30 minutes. Another example is weight-bearing exercises. This includes picking up weights that are a portion of your body weight. To remain in shape one does not have to do a lot of it but one should do some. It is important in any type of exercising to avoid injury to the body from stretching before exercising to wearing the correct clothing. Civilization tends to be aware of the former but ignore the latter. Sports bras are a common example of women hypocritingly exercising and at the same time injuring the body. Skin and ligaments (elastic connective tissue) provide a delicate support frame for the breasts that can be damaged by too much bouncing and stretching. There are two types of sports bras: compression bras and encapsulation, harness-type bras. The first work s better for smaller breasted women because of the fit and the second tends to work better for larger women. When choosing the correct one for you take into account: the fit, how much support it is giving for the exercise that is going to be done, fabric (does it absorb moisture well), seams and stitching to avoid chaffing, and mobility. After taking all these into account one can be assured that he is well prepared for the exercise routine. .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 , .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .postImageUrl , .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 , .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:hover , .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:visited , .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:active { border:0!important; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:active , .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42 .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u20313f3bf16b12ff114b383f55c3ed42:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: American Romanticism Essay In conclusion, all the factors mentioned above can lead to a less stressful life. Sleep can help the body relax to deal with everyday pressure. People who eat a diet low in refined carbohydrates, sugar and caffeine, and high in whole grains, have shown a greater ability to cope with stress as in contrast to those who consume the opposite. Exercise, as well, is a way to release stress and tension (i.e. running, kickboxing, stair stepping, etc.). If one keeps all the factors in mind a healthier happier life can be achieved. The Technological Revolution Essays (2174 words) - Futurology
The Technological Revolution The Technological Revolution Technological Changes of the Past and Present The technology which surrounds almost everyone in the modern society, affects both work and leisure activities. Technology contains information that many would rather it did not have. It influences minds in good and bad ways, and it allows people to share information which they would otherwise not be able to attain. Even if a person does not own a computer or have credit cards, there is information on a computer somewhere about everyone. The technology which is just now beginning to be manipulated and harnessed is affecting the minds of small children and adolescents in ways that could be harmful. It is affecting our immediate future. It also gives another form of communication and exchange of information which was not available before, information that is both good and bad. Technology is one of the principal driving forces of the future; it is transforming our lives and shaping our future at rates unprecedented in history, with profound implications which we can't even begin to see or understand. Many different elements affect how satisfied we are with our lives. The impact of technology on these elements can change how safe, healthy and happy people feel. Throughout history, people have looked for better ways to meet their needs and to satisfy their expectations. Technology has improved the way people feed, clothe and shelter themselves. Technology has also changed other aspects of everyday life, such as health care, education, job satisfaction, and leisure time activities. People have used technology since they first chipped stone blades to improve their hunting. Yet some people call the current age the Technological Age because of society's dependence on technology. For the first time in human history, almost all the goods and services people use depend on technology. The products of technology are available to almost everyone in society. The economy of a country influences how the people of the county live. Technology is often considered the key to a nation's economic growth. Most economists would say that it is one of the factors in economic growth, but they would probably disagree about its importance. Many economists think that if technology sparks growth in one sector of the economy in the form of increased productivity, growth will also occur in other sectors of the economy. Jobs may be lost in one industry, such as agriculture but new jobs may emerge in other sectors of the economy. There may be more jobs or, in some case, completely new kinds of jobs. Technology may also be used to solve urgent problems. Our growing population is using up infinite supplies of natural resources. Innovations in technology can allow for more efficient use of limited or scarce resources. More products might be made from the same amount of raw material using new techniques. Technology can increase productivity to help countries compete with other countries in selling goods and services. Some say that without technological improvements, the economy would grow slowly or not at all. Society could remain the same for years, some what like the early Middle Ages in Europe, in which there was little economic change for hundreds of years. Ways to manufacture goods have changed continuously through history. Today, several important new advances in technology are transforming. These technologies create new products; most of them also change the way people in society interact. These technologies have a tremendous impact on our monetary resources. Some of the technologies which are having the greatest effect on the economy are: robotics, automation and computerization. Robotics: Artificial Intelligence Although robotics have a well-established position in the Japanese industry, it has not, so far, turned out to be what many experts thought it would. Businesses in the United States and Europe have not embraced industrial robots at nearly the rate of the Japanese, and other more consumer oriented versions are very much in the development phase. Even so, industry sources believe that the use of robots to make clothes and other consumer goods will be common by the turn of the century. This general trend (the use of robotics) is likely to change, perhaps dramatically, in the next two decades. Robots are in one sense collections of other more basic technologies: sensors, controlling and analysis software,

Athens
Following the period of time in Athens during the 5th Century B.C when it was ruled by a radical, extreme democracy, the Athenian people voted to choose thirty men to rule as an oligarchy. The Athenians wanted to be governed by the ancient laws enacted by Solon and Cleisthenes, so these men were chosen by the people to frame the ancient laws into a constitution under which to conduct the government. However, the Thirty had their own agendas, ones that earned them the nickname The Thirty Tyrants of Athens. What did these so called Thirty Tyrants hope to achieve in Athens? Well, mainly they wanted total control over the Athenian people and its government, and to use this to their own advantages. After they were chosen, the Thirty delayed framing and publishing this constitution, the very thing that they were put in place to do. This was done for their own benefit, as since there was no constitution as yet, they could still make the rules up as they went along. However, they still appointed a Senate and Magistrates as they saw fit. This enabled them to appoint people they know would be loyal to them, and support anything they tried to do. The first step the Thirty took when voted to power in 404 B.C was to arrest all the people who by common knowledge had made a living during the time of the democracy by acting as informers and opposing the aristocrats. They were held with a sentence of death if found guilty. This pleased the Senate, as they were the aristocratic class that these people had opposed. They were happy to hand out guilty verdicts. The common people were not displeased because they knew that they were not part of this class. This enabled the Thirty to dispose of all the obvious troublemakers who would oppose them. The Thirty realized that to enable them to be free to make decisions on their behalf, they would also need a military force. Therefore, they sent two of their members, by the names...

Strategies for Teaching Aggressive Children
Strategies for Teaching Aggressive Children There are many reasons behind aggressive behavior in children. As teachers, its important to remember that these kinds of behavior issues can spring from environmental stresses, neurological issues or emotional coping deficits. Rarely is the aggressive child simply a bad kid. Despite the varied reasons behind the aggressive behavior, it can be addressed with success when teachers are consistent, fair, and relentless in establishing a one-on-one connection. What Does the Aggressive Childs Behavior Look Like? This child will often antagonize others and is drawn to physical fighting or verbal arguments. She might be the class bully and have few real friends. He prefers to solve problems by winning fights and arguments. Aggressive children often threaten other students. These students often fear the aggressor, who delights in showing herself as a fighter, both verbally and physically. Where Does Aggressive Behavior Come From? The aggressive child usually has a lack of self-confidence. He gains it through aggressive behavior. In this regard, aggressors are first and foremostà attention seekers,à and they enjoy the attention they gain from being aggressive. The aggressive child sees that power brings attention. When he threatens other children in the class, his weaker self-image and lack of social success falls away, and he becomes a leader of some renown. The aggressive child usually knows that his behavior is inappropriate, but the rewards for him outweigh the disapproval of authority figures. Are Parents to Blame? Children can be aggressive for many reasons, some of them related to conditions that may be hereditary or home environments that are unhealthy. But aggression is not handed down from parent to child. Parents to aggressive children who are aggressive themselves should be honest with themselves and recognize that while they are not responsible for these behaviors in their children, they may be part of the problem and certainly can be part of the solution.à Interventions for Classroom Teachers Be consistent, be patient and remember that change takes time. All children need to know you care about them and that they can contribute to their environment in a positive way. By committing to a one-on-one relationship with the aggressive child, you will deliver this message to her and help to break the cycle. Never ignore inappropriate aggression, but do not get drawn into a power struggle with the aggressor.Be firm, but gentle. The aggressive child can handle your tough side, but he will succumb to gentleness. à Thats what he really wants- the right kind of attention.Deal one-on-one with the aggressor and devise a plan for her to take control of her own behavior.à Be genuine. Successful teachers know that when they establish a one-on-one relationship with the aggressor, success soon follows.à Provide opportunities for this child to act appropriately and get some badly needed attention, give him responsibilities and provide praise.Catch the aggressor behaving well and provide immediate, positive feedback. The Ethics of Selective Reproduction Research Paper
The Ethics of Selective Reproduction - Research Paper Example The ethical concerns touch on several issues, most of the complex and risky. For instance, there was the 1980s attempt to eliminate or least reduce neurological disorders of Parkinsonââ¬â¢s by transfer of fetal brain tissues2. The attempts are yet to materialize. Scientific feats that were thought impossible before have been achieved with persistent research and trial. This has been observed in the successful cloning of non-human animals3. à Eugenics refers to the attempt to improve the human gene pool. Different mindsets have agreed on the same definition of the term although not everyone has the same idea of what counts as eugenics4. One of the aspects of eugenics that is a source of ethical concern is the significance of parental choice in the matter. Given the fact that parents have the free will to choose what kind of a child they want, it loses state enforcement of coercive methods5. Liberal eugenics leaves room for misuse by both reproductive health providers and parents. Whereas this looks like a state of coercion to some people, others believe that the nature of services provided in eugenics cannot go without the free will and choices of parents. Wilkinson states that, ââ¬Å"But other people think that some procedures which prospective parents can choose, such as pre-implantation genetic diagnosis (PGD), with embryo testing and the subsequent disposal or donation of unwanted embryos, are clearly cases of eu genics, even where events are entirely a matter of parental preference and thereââ¬â¢s no state coercion at allâ⬠6 à Despite the bad image the term eugenics had from the Nazi era, the present meaning and context of the term can be argued to be a moral and ethical position. Unlike the Nazi eugenics that involved mass murder of targets that ranged from assorted ethnicities to children with disabilities by the State, todayââ¬â¢s eugenics does not compromise the lives of citizens at all7.

Precede Proceed Model - Essay Example As per the research conducted by Stanford University Medical Center (2003), South Asian Indian Women are more prone to heart diseases and diabetes compared to other women of the world. The primary reason behind this is their reluctance to the insulin resistance syndrome that causes high blood pressure, cholesterol and diabetes. There is no doubt that diet plays an important role in controlling diabetes but reluctance towards insulin is one of the major problems that often aggravate the problem. Thus, it is important for health planners, policy makers and evaluators to design an effective and efficient health program pertaining to the diabetes control among South Asian Indian Women. The role of health care institutes and communities is of great importance in creating awareness along with changing the health care systems and patterns along with educating women suffering from diabetes. There is a need of global initiative and a systematic utilization of the health framework to attain he alth objectives. It is important to incorporate Precede Proceed Modelââ¬â¢s elements while designing an effective framework for controlling diabetes along with keeping a tab on related diseases. ... There has been a dramatic increase in the prevalence of Diabetes in South Asian Indian Women living in different parts of the world. The primary reason behind this is low physical activities and high fat diet. There is no denying that genetics play an important role in determining a disease but apart from it, health initiatives and perceptions also play a deciding role. It is important to create local level awareness among these women along with guiding them in an informative and logical manner on the use and importance of insulin. An initiative needs to be taken by creating health care communities bringing changes along with managing and guiding people suffering from diabetes (Gielen, McDonald, Bone, (2008). This would help in addressing the problem in a systematic manner offering great results and solutions. Precede Proceed Model Lawrence Green (1976) stated that Precede Proceed Model is a framework that helps and guides health planners, policy makers and evaluators to assess a hea lth problem along with designing an effective health programs. It includes enhancing of health and quality life by designing and implementing effective health initiatives and programs. This model requires active participation of targeted audience in order to understand problems and issues pertaining to a specific disease. This model states that health problems are influenced by both environmental and personal factors and need to be analyzed well. In this discussion, the basic health problem to be assessed and analyzed is diabetes and community based health solutions would be designed based on Precede Proceed Model. This would help in achieving the proposed objective of the discussion in a desired and systematic manner. Description of the Model The

Meaning of life - Soul Essay Example for Free
Meaning of life Soul Essay Personhood Chart This chart contains a grid for different philosophical anthropologies that answer the question of personhood. Complete the following chart in the context of defining what it means to be human according to Christianity, Materialism, and your own Personal View. Refer to the assigned reading for explanation of characteristics listed on the left. Christianity Materialism Personal View Relational God created human beings to live in community. When people lose that sense of love and belonging, they lose their meaning and purpose in life. God created family and the neighbor to be provide the human with the relationship needed for hope and healing. In order to carry out production and exchange, people have to enter into very definite social relations, most fundamentally production relations. Relationships with others should be based off of the materials in which they can provide you with the benefit a person the most. I believe everyone steps into our lives for one reason or another- either good or bad and we need to be the ones to differentiate between the two. Each relationship provides us with a sense of love and understanding on the purpose of our life. Multidimensional There is a vibrant sense of the person in relationship to God and the world through the bodily senses and functions. The body, soul, mind, spirit and even the various body parts are expressions of the wholeness that is the human self. Humans are material objects. They are not immaterial things, or objects, or substances; neither do they contain as parts immaterial selves or souls or entelechies. Their parts are material: flesh and bones and blood, molecules, atoms, electrons. A human is more than a corpse. We are multidimensional and each dimension is important in who we are and how we act in society. à © 2015. Grand Canyon University. All Rights Reserved. Sexual Jesus showed us that we are sexual beings. Sexuality encompasses the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of our being. Man and women are supposed to stay faithful to each other and not commit adultery. It is believed to be a physical act between two individuals that creates energy and may result in the creation of a child through scientific means. Sexual behavior affects not only a personââ¬â¢s physical health but also self- image, interpersonal relationships and relationship with God and others. Moral We should choose to act based on good thinking, Scripture and prayer, and the Holy Spirit helps us discern the right alternatives. God knows our intentions are to please him and desire the best moral outcomes for all. The brain and body are a dynamic system interacting with the environment. There is no non- physical entity which could take credit or blame for the outcome of our actions. We learn our morals through trial and error as well as through the relationships we have with others. If we surround ourselves with ethically individuals we too with be ethical. Mortal We are mortals, but God has given us eternal life in Jesus Christ. We die, and yet we live. Poor stewardship of the life God has given us may well exacerbate the death and decay that surround us In order for human beings to survive and continue existence from generation to generation, it is necessary for them to produce and reproduce the material requirements of life Mortality is unavoidable yet difficult. Once someone dies their soul will either go to Heaven or to Hell. Destined for Eternal Life Destined for eternal life: Eternal life is the life one lives after death. By death the soul is separated from the body, but in the resurrection God will give incorruptible life to our body, transformed by reunion with our soul There is no such thing as eternal life. Life begins when the heart starts beating and ends with the heart stops beating. I believe that those who believe will live an eternal life and that those who do not will not. 2 References Plantinga, Alvin. (2010) Materialism and Christian Belief. Free Essays on Kafkas Metamorphosis: True Essence of the Metamorphosis :: Metamorphosis essays
Upon completion of Kafka's Metamorphosis I was immediately drawn away from the conclusion of the novel and back into the second section.à It seemed to me that the true essence of the novella resided in the thoughts and observations revealed in this portion of the story.à After watching the video adaptation I was once again intrigued by these events.à I re-read the second section and found the first strong impressions of the grotesque were evident here.à à Kafka used the constant setting of the Samsa household to show the true repercussions of the metamorphosis.à It is here that Gregor is truly dehumanized.à No longer can he stand the taste of what used to be his favorite dish. à He is reduced to a vermin who feeds on rotted, decaying food and who finds the presence of fresh food repulsing.à The very means by which he sustained himself is not fit for a human, but rather for a dependent beast. à Gregor's eyesight begins to fail him.à As his former self, he would spend hours looking out the window, studying, and reading; however, he now finds nothing more than a skewed perception of reality when doing these things.à The whole worlds now looks and tastes different for Gregor.à The world's perception of him drives him away, and now his perception of the world drives him away even further.à Alienation feeds upon itself.à With the taste of moldy cheese in his mouth and the sight of nothing but a desolate gray à expanse in front of him, Gregor's leisurely activity of snacking and staring out the window has been reduced to a sentence of feeding and suffering. à As his senses dwindle and alter, he also finds that his comfort zones do the same thing.à Unlike a normal person who lies upon a couch or bed and fears what may lie under it, Gregor resides underneath the couch and hides from those who would normally rest atop.à His world has been turned upside-down.à He no longer roots himself to the floor, but clings to the ceiling.à Gregor has metamorphosed and is now truly the unguers ungerzeifer.à à à à à à à Sadly, Gregor's family treats him like the beast that he truly has become.à Seeing the damages as irreparable, they strip him of his worldly possessions and leave him in a "naked den fit for a beast."à The struggle that he puts forth when his furniture is taken is symbolic of his struggle to return to human form.

April Morning by Howard Fast Book Review Essay
The book April Morning by Howard Fast is a dramatic story of the bloody battle of Lexington set up with a one day structure from the view of a fifteen year old boy turning into a man. In the book we see the life of Adam Cooper changing from child to man in the matter of one day. Each chapter is a different time period of the day telling us what has happened and what the effects were on his life. Adam Cooper is a fifteen-year-old boy living in colonial Lexington, Massachusetts with his family. He feels demoralized by his father, Moses Cooper, but finds consolation from Granny Cooper, his paternal grandmother. When a meeting of the township Committee is called on the evening of April 18th, Adam wishes to attend but his father questions whether or not his son is a man and has earned the right to attend the meeting. Instead of attending the meeting, Adam visits his neighbor Ruth Simmons, a distant relative whom he loves whom he loves and sees himself marrying in the distant future. When his father returns home from the meeting, Adam eavesdrop as Moses tells his wife Sarah and Granny Cooper what happened, as the colonial communities prepare for a possible confrontation with the British army. During the late night early morning, a rider arrives in Lexington, waking up the community with news that the British army is on the march to Concord to take out supplies and ammunition that is being stored by colonists for a possible rebellion. Once the news of the night rider reaches the town the committeemen hold a muster for the militia, and Adam decides to sign the muster book and commit to fighting for the militia. His father is present when he is signing the muster and allows for it to happen. Moses Cooper no longer sees his son as a boy but as a determined man willing to fight for his family and community. Both Adam and his father prepared themselves for the battle and a total of seventy militia men wait for the arrival of the British army. Moses Cooper argues persuasively with the committeemen that the small number of men canââ¬â¢t stand up to the thousands of Redcoat troops they will be greeting alone, and so itââ¬â¢s decided that they will state their case but do no more; they decide to talk it out rather than to fight. However when the British finally reach Lexington, the officers are sneeringly dismissive of the colonists and tell them to leave the common and a mysterious shot is fired causing the British troops to begin firing on the colonists. The British massacred the small militia that stood in front of them, and Adam watched as his father and other men he had known his entire life be shot down. Adam hides in terror and cannot go home because of the British troops in town and it is unsafe. Adam is off to the woods to find the rest of the militia and he is almost discovered by British soldiers, but before they do so are called away to march towards Concord. Adam runs from the British and is shot at by redcoats, only to be caught in the grip of an older colonial man named Solomon Chandler, who helps Adam and provides him with some consolation and food. Adam joins Chandler on his journey to meet up with more members of colonial militias. Along the way, other colonists join the two, also ready to fight the British. Once at the pasture, Adam is greeted by Cousin Simmons and The Reverend, and is relieved that others from the Lexington militia had survived. Though the various town committees and militia have general instructions, there isnââ¬â¢t a single leader chosen to lead the battle. It was a confused time for the colonists fighting and finally Chandler guides them and instructs the men waiting at the pasture to split up into groups according to the firing range of their weapons. Adam and the other men in his group lay under the brush and fire at the redcoats, Adams gun does not reach a far distance so he does not shoot but watches instead; he see the burning of Lexington and the bloodshed of the redcoats. Through the mist of all of the battle Adam seems to fall asleep leaving everyone to believe that he is wounded and dead. When Adam wakes up he finds that the battle has moved to a distant location; he hears Cousin Simmons and The Reverend talking, meets them, and they all agree to go home to Lexington, or what is left of it. Once home Adam is greeted with relief and happiness by the surviving members of his family and others from the town. Adam is now treated like a fully-grown man when he was only recently considered a simple child to everyone. Adam makes peace with his fatherââ¬â¢s corpse, and then helps to carry the casket to the church. At the church Adam lights some extra candles so his father wonââ¬â¢t have to rest in the dark of night. Cousin Simmons makes sure that Adam is aware this battle was only the start, and that he must consider his other responsibilities as the new head of household when deciding if heââ¬â¢ll continue to fight. When Adam returns home his mother is already asleep but Granny Cooper is awake and says she knows he will go back into battle eventually. He puts off the question for the time being, and is relieved to finally go to sleep and end this momentous day. The book is a great and quick read being that it is only 202 pages long. The text gets you involved and makes it feel as if you are there with Adam Cooper through the battles and his day. You feel as if you are standing next to Adam while on the field holding your riffle awaiting the battles. The pressures and emotions that the boy is going through as he transitions into an adult are heartfelt and many people can relate to Adam in some ways. The pressure of becoming a man over night and resuming all these responsibilities he never had to deal with before is a struggle that many can relate too. I personally would definitely recommend this book to my peers as well as to younger and older audiences. This book in my opinion was very good in the fact that it drew me in and kept me wanting to read more as the story went on. I donââ¬â¢t usually like reading and the fact that this book makes me want to keep reading and not stop till it was finished in my opinion makes this a good book. Fast is a great author and knows how to draw in an audience. Overall this was a great book and I would definitely recommend it to all.

Lorenzoââ¬â¢s Oil
In the Movie Lorenzoââ¬â¢s oil the disease Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) or also known as Schilder's Disease, a rare inherited disorder that leads to progressive brain damage, failure of the adrenal gland and eventually death, is institutionalized by Augusto and Michaela Odoneââ¬â¢s struggle to find a cure for their son who has ALD. Their independent efforts to find a cure for this dreaded disease leads them to clashes with the established medical institutions. Scientists, doctors and other support groups to not believe they can succeed. However, their efforts soon gain media attention and people from the mainstream are drawn into assisting them in their ââ¬Ëmadââ¬â¢ crusade. Their labors are epitomized in the international symposium the definitely catches peoples attention. Eventually, enough mainstream interest is gained in ALD research and actual scientists back them up in finding a cure. It is an example, of institutionalization because by their labors ALD is brought into the mainstream as a disease that should be studied and fought and not just an isolated illness that the occasional luckless person suffers. Advocacy refers to efforts on the part of an individual to gain attention for something in the hopes of positive reaction from the public. In this movie the couple advocated the search for a cure to their sonââ¬â¢s affliction and in the end has some success. Interference, is quite the opposite, is when people try to get media mileage from an event in an effort to gain popularity. Politicians who get involved in social issues are often disparaged as simply trying to gain media mileage. I learned from the movie that we must never give up hope. Science, with enough persistence, can help us conquer many problems that appear unconquerable. Also, we must discern between those who truly want to help us and those who are merely trying to use us for their own personal gains.

The Physics Field of Fluid Statics
The Physics Field of Fluid Statics Fluid statics is the field of physics that involves the study of fluids at rest. Because these fluids are not in motion, that means they have achieved a stable equilibrium state, so fluid statics is largely about understanding these fluid equilibrium conditions. When focusing on incompressible fluids (such as liquids) as opposed to compressible fluids (such as most gases), it is sometimes referred to as hydrostatics. A fluid at rest does not undergo any sheer stress, and only experiences the influence of the normal force of the surrounding fluid (and walls, if in a container), which is the pressure. (More on this below.) This form of equilibrium condition of a fluid is said to be a hydrostatic condition. Fluids that are not in a hydrostatic condition or at rest, and are therefore in some sort of motion, fall under the other field of fluid mechanics, fluid dynamics. Major Concepts of Fluid Statics Sheer stress vs. Normal stress Consider a cross-sectional slice of a fluid. It is said to experience a sheer stress if it is experiencing a stress that is coplanar, or a stress that points in a direction within the plane. Such a sheer stress, in a liquid, will cause motion within the liquid. Normal stress, on the other hand, is a push into that cross sectional area. If the area is against a wall, such as the side of a beaker, then the cross sectional area of the liquid will exert a force against the wall (perpendicular to the cross section - therefore, not coplanar to it). The liquid exerts a force against the wall and the wall exerts a force back, so there is net force and therefore no change in motion. The concept of a normal force may be familiar from early in studying physics, because it shows up a lot in working with and analyzing free-body diagrams. When something is sitting still on the ground, it pushes down toward the ground with a force equal to its weight. The ground, in turn, exerts a normal force back on the bottom of the object. It experiences the normal force, but the normal force doesnt result in any motion. A sheer force would be if someone shoved on the object from the side, which would cause the object to move so long that it can overcome the resistance of friction. A force coplanar within a liquid, though, isnt going to be subject to friction, because there isnt friction between molecules of a fluid. Thats part of what makes it a fluid rather than two solids. But, you say, wouldnt that mean that the cross section is being shoved back into the rest of the fluid? And wouldnt that mean that it moves? This is an excellent point. That cross-sectional sliver of fluid is being pushed back into the rest of the liquid, but when it does so the rest of the fluid pushes back. If the fluid is incompressible, then this pushing isnt going to move anything anywhere. The fluid is going to push back and everything will stay still. (If compressible, there are other considerations, but lets keep it simple for now.) Pressure All of these tiny cross sections of liquid pushing against each other, and against the walls of the container, represent tiny bits of force, and all of this force results in another important physical property of the fluid: the pressure. Instead of cross sectional areas, consider the fluid divided up into tiny cubes. Each side of the cube is being pushed on by the surrounding liquid (or the surface of the container, if along the edge) and all of these are normal stresses against those sides. The incompressible fluid within the tiny cube cannot compress (thats what incompressible means, after all), so there is no change of pressure within these tiny cubes. The force pressing on one of these tiny cubes will be normal forces that precisely cancel out the forces from the adjacent cube surfaces. This cancellation of forces in various directions is of the key discoveries in relation to hydrostatic pressure, known as Pascals Law after the brilliant French physicist and mathematician Blaise Pascal (1623-1662). This means that the pressure at any point is the same in all horizontal directions, and therefore that the change in pressure between two points will be proportional to the difference in height. Density Another key concept in understanding fluid statics is the density of the fluid. It figures into the Pascals Law equation, and each fluid (as well as solids and gases) have densities that can be determined experimentally. Here are a handful of common densities. Density is the mass per unit volume. Now think about various liquids, all split up into those tiny cubes I mentioned earlier. If each tiny cube is the same size, then differences in density means that tiny cubes with different densities will have different amount of mass in them. A higher-density tiny cube will have more stuff in it than a lower-density tiny cube. The higher-density cube will be heavier than the lower-density tiny cube, and will therefore sink in comparison to the lower-density tiny cube. So if you mix two fluids (or even non-fluids) together, the denser parts will sink that the less dense parts will rise. This is also evident in the principle of buoyancy, that explains how displacement of liquid results in an upward force, if you remember your Archimedes. If you pay attention to the mixing of two fluids while its happening, such as when you mix oil and water, therell be a lot of fluid motion, and that would covered by fluid dynamics. But once the fluid reaches equilibrium, youll have fluids of different densities that have settled into layers, with the highest density fluid forming the bottom layer, up until you reach the lowest density fluid on the top layer. An example of this is shown on the graphic on this page, where fluids of different types have differentiated themselves into stratified layers based on their relative densities.

Selfies Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Selfies - Research Paper Example Selfies are described as being photographs that are taken by individuals of their own persons with the typical aid of webcams or smartphones and then subsequently uploaded to the various social media websites. The increasing popularity of selfies and photography is highlighted by the fact that according to phys.org (2013), the internet search provider Yahoo recently estimated that in 2014, an estimated over 880 billion photographs will be taken. According to this estimate, there will be about 123 photos taken throughout the year for every child, man and woman on earth with the larger part of these photographs being selfies. A survey conducted in Britain for Samsung found that 10 percent of women and 17 percent of men were recorded as stating that they greatly enjoyed what they believed to be good-looking photographs of themselves. Part of the allure of selfies is based on the fact that taking a selfie is considered to be a ridiculously easy affair. This is in contrast to the photo taking affairs of yesteryears where taking photos was considered to be a serious and careful affair. During this era of film cameras, it was not worth it to waste an expensive roll of film on attempting to take self-portraits that had a high likelihood of not being well focused (Adewunmi 2013). The raging popularity of selfies on social media led to the development of Instagram in October 2010. Instagram is a social media website that is dedicated to facilitating the sharing of both pictures and videos. Instagram users are able to take pictures which they then easily upload and share with their friends on the site. Hoping to ride on the ever rising popularity of the selfies phenomenon, the social media site Facebook bought Instagram for approximately $1 billion in combined stock and cash, this is after Instagram had only been operational for only about three years. The increasing number of users

Cross Cultural Communication - Essay Example In seeking the relevance of English use in the international business environment, McKay (2003) proposed that English has achieved its status as the global lingua franca as an increasing number of individuals in the world believe it is of their advantage to acquire English as an additional language. Graddol (1999, 62) actually predicted that, "based solely on expected population changes, the number of people using English as their second language will grow from 235 million to around 462 million during the next 50 years." This staggering growth impacts on the use of English as the international business language. In order to address English language use and culture understanding in the business context, it is also necessary that the business organisations' side be properly assessed in what ways does culture and language have to be incorporated in the day-to-day operations. Mattock (2003) presented a need to examine the following in order to fully comprehend and develop ways to address organisational issues in the global context: Communications are ways and means to connect, be understood and eventually become acceptable within an organisation or locality in consideration of various languages, understanding of common language use, among others. Likewise, when organisations already defined ... Timing encompasses understanding of daily routines, concept of late and on time, proper situational clues and even days and months or years when executives must implement what they plan Communications are ways and means to connect, be understood and eventually become acceptable within an organisation or locality in consideration of various languages, understanding of common language use, among others. Likewise, when organisations already defined their goals and plans within the context of learning and incorporating national and organisational cultures, personality types, tactics and negotiation skills, as well as timing and communication, all these lead to the role of language use. These basically comprise immersion and total commitment towards the host country of which culture and language play major roles in order to realise organisational goals. Likewise, other problems have been identified with regards to the international setting for business organisations. The recent decades global economic growth saw widespread changes and foreign investment so that business expatriates from Western developed countries like: USA, France, Germany, Australia and UK (Selmer, 2001) representing mostly multinational enterprises (MNEs) were assigned to overseas territories as other countries are closely consider their moves as their international companies aspire a foothold in many areas. Asian, South American, African and formerly Russian countries have become a top expatriate destination by many western multinational enterprises as foreign direct investment (FDI) set to continue growth. Preparing for class discussion 2 - Article Example Finally, women might also benefit from monetary support from their husbands if they are experiencing wage constrains depreciation (Gabel 72). In men cases, they feel honored in marriage if the woman of their dreams is mature enough, quite understanding and one who consoles him besides supporting his ideas. In addition, in marriages men desire and envies women who take care of their possession and children besides managing household chores (Gabel 72). In the past fifty years, this has greatly changed such that marriage rates have decreased while divorce rates have severely increased. This is because the concept of marriage today is that it is about love besides personal fulfillment in providing monetary budget. Hence, the two romantically involved individuals if facing financial constrains may opt to leave the relationship. Marriages have completely changed because of the use of birth control pills (Gabel 73). This is because the relationship between the sexes involved may deteriorate because women now have the ability to control the timing of their fertility. Therefore, researchers predict that they have a higher probability to wed a more financially stable man (Gabel 73). Because, women have more time to achieve the life dreams in that they allocate themselves more time to plan for their families besides their careers. Hence, the birth control pills have played a role in early marriages or marriage at all in that women controls when to become mothers and in earning high wages thus, marriage view has become less compelling (Gabel 73). Marriage is taking another trend because more women have achieved a lot in education sector which has enabled them to be self reliant thus they have the ability to delay the role of motherhood. Therefore, this has depicted that women do not now require a man for economical survival. Where in the past a woman needed a man for financial support for they now can support themselves. Hence, this is a clear indication why marriage

Wages of Sin Revealed in The Divine Comedy :: Divine Comedy Inferno Essays
Wages of Sin Revealed in The Divine Comedy à à à In his poem The Divine Comedy. The Inferno, Dante Alighieri gives his audience a clear vivid presentation of what he as a follower of the Christian religion perceives to be hell. Dante shows that human sin is punishable in various degrees of severity and that this is dependent on the nature of one's sinful actions. He sets forth what could very well be the most fully developed Christian understanding of justice on earth, and that is; that what we do as human beings will determine what happens to us in the event of death based on God's judgment. In writing his poem Dante uses symbolism, allegorism and imagery among other literary effects to place his poem analogically to life as it was during his day and age. Dante structures The Inferno around thirty four cantos. Each of these cantos marks a steady progression from the mildest to the worst of sins. The cantos depict sinners under various forms of punishment which are commensurate to the nature of their sins. à Dante categorizes sin into three different categories of fraud, incontinence and violence. In canto I he mentions three animals namely , a leopard, a lion and a she-wolf. These animals act as symbolisms for the various types of sins. The sin^à ±s depicted in canto XVIII are symbolized by the she-wolf which acts as a symbol for the sins of fraud. The sins of fraud are placed the furthest from God in the deepest pits of hell, near Satan. In canto XVIII Dante and his guide Virgil find themselves in the eighth circle, called the Malebolge. It is in the Malebolge, that each of the kinds of simple fraud are punished in the concentric ditches. à In the first ditch, Dante sees two files of naked sinners each running in opposite direction, whipped by demons. These sinners are the panderers and the seducers. Dante recognizes Venedico Caccianemico, a man he once knew. Venedico in this case is depicted as having sold his sister, Ghisola to serve the will and lust of another man, Marquis. Dante at this point uses a fellow contemporary to show what happens when one goes against the will of God and sins. Venedico betrays his family ties and his indifference in this act results in his eternal punishment of being whipped by demons.

Ccot Christianity Outline Essay
WHAP ââ¬â Part B: Continuity and Change-Over-Time Essay This essay question deals specifically with analysis of continuities and changes over time and covers at least one of the periods in the concept outline. It can address, for example, any of the course themes, such as technology, trade, culture, migrations, or environment. There may also be some internal choice within the question, so that students are able to choose to draw their evidence from a case that they know better. The continuity and change-over-time essay questions require students to demonstrate their mastery of this historical thinking skill. Moreover, students are expected to construct an argument that responds directly to the question; doing so should cause them to use several of the other historical thinking skills (argumentation, causation, contextualization, and synthesis). The generic scoring guide for the continuity and change-over-time essay is shown below; following that, on the next two pages, are a sample continuity and change over time question, the directions that appear in the AP Exam booklet, and a discussion of ââ¬Å"What Good Responses Should Include.â⬠Change-Over-Time (CCOT) Essay Generic Scoring Rubric |BASIC CORE (competence) |0-7 Points | |(Historical skills and knowledge required to show competence) | | |1. Has acceptable thesis |1 Point | |(Addresses global issues and the time period(s) specified) | | |2. Addresses all parts of the question, though not necessarily evenly or thoroughly |2 Points | |(Addresses most parts of the question: for example, addresses change but not continuity) |(1 Point) | |3. Substantiates thesis with appropriate historical evidence |2 Points | |(Partially substantiates thesis with appropriate historical evidence)à |(1 Point) | |4. Uses relevant world historical context effectively to explain change over time and/or continuity |1 Point | |5. Analyzes the process of continuity and change over time |1 Point | |Point Subtotal |7 Points | | | | |EXPANDED CORE (excellence) | | |(Historical skills and knowledge required to show excellence) |0-2 Points | |Expands beyond basic core of 1-7 points. A student must earn 7 points in the basic core area before ear ning points in the expanded core | | |area. | | |Examples: | | |Has a clear, analytical, and comprehensive thesis | | |Analyzes all issues of the question (as relevant): global context, chronology, causation, change, continuity, effects, content | | |Addresses all parts of the question evenly | | |Provides ample historical evidence to substantiate thesis | | |Provides links with relevant ideas, events, trends in an innovative way | | |Subtotal |/2 Points | |Total |/9 Points | CCOT ââ¬â Continuity and Change Over Time Essay Note that the sample continuity and change-over-time essay below is slightly modified from the continuity and change-over-time essay on the 2010 AP World History Exam to make the topic of the question more closely align with the AP World History Curriculum Framework. The time allotted for this essay isà 40 minutes, 5 minutes of which should be spent planning and/or outlining the answer. Directions: You are to answer the following question. You should spend 5 minutes organizing or outlining your essay. 1. Write an essay that: â⬠¢ Has a relevant thesis and supports that thesis with appropriate historical evidence. â⬠¢ Addresses all parts of the question. â⬠¢ Uses world historical context to show continuities and changes over time. â⬠¢ Analyzes the process of continuity and change over time. 2. Analyze continuities and changes in cultural beliefs and practices in ONE of the following regions from 1450 to the present. â⬠¢ Sub-Saharan Africa â⬠¢ Latin America/Caribbean What Good Responses Should Include A good response analyzes continuities and changes in cultural beliefs and practices in one of the stipulated regions [Sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America/Caribbean]. ââ¬Å"Cultural beliefs and practicesâ⬠is understood very broadly in world history to include religion, philosophy, ideology, science and technology, education, the arts, literature, and architecture. Students do not have to address the entire region, but all examples they provide must fall within the stipulated region. Because the central task in this question calls for analysis of continuity and change, acceptable thesis statements need to address both, stating at least one continuity and at least one change. Acceptable thesis statements also need to be explicit, not simply restatements of the question or vague statements such as ââ¬Å"there were more changes than continuities.â⬠They also need to be relevant to the time period, beginning in roughly 1450 and ending sometime in the postââ¬â World War II twentieth century. A good response provides analysis of valid continuities and changes in cultural beliefs and practices, supported by specific pieces of evidence from the time period, which provide supporting examples of continuity or change. For example, in terms of continuities, students could point to the continuation of the practice of indigenous religions in either area and also to the continuation of the spread of Christianity in either area or of the spread of Islam in Africa; the ways inà which migrants continued their cultures in new environments; the ways in which culture was used by all types of leaders to support political systems; the ways in which language, religion, and social customs provided a sense of identification. In terms of change, for the sixteenth and the seventeenth centuries, students could examine the development of syncretic forms of religion such as vodun or the cult of the saints, or the way in which the Spanish and Portuguese rulers of Latin America used art and archi tecture to legitimate their power. For the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, they could discuss the spread of Enlightenment thought in Latin America and the consequences of this; the impact of new racial ideologies, such as Social Darwinism, in Africa; the development of millenarian ideas such as the Xhosa Cattle- Killing Movement; the spread of anti-imperial, nationalist, and communist ideology in either area. For the twentieth century, students could examine the spread of the idea of human rights; the formation of new cultural identities, such as negritude; the ways religion was applied to political issues, such as fundamentalist movements and Liberation Theology; the increasing globalization of consumer culture. Any of these examples would need to be tied into the process of change and continuity, as would any background information that students provide to set up their essays. A good essay moves beyond a mechanistic ââ¬Å"beginning, middle, and endâ⬠format and provides solid chronological knowledge across the entire time period. Further, students should think about including dates in their essay to demonstrate that they have the ability to describe with some precision when continuity and change happened. Solid historical analysis explains the reason for or the impact of a specific continuity or a particular change, and a good essay provides specific discussion of cause and impact. For example, the statement ââ¬Å"Nationalism grew in Africa in the twentieth centuryâ⬠is a solid piece of evidence about change, but tying this to a cause or effect would generate this superior analysis: ââ¬Å"Nationalism grew in Africa, which led to the overthrow of European empires.â⬠An essay that effectively addresses world historical context might describe an extra-regional connection or a global process to explain continuity or change in cultural beliefs or practices. For this essay, students would need to focus on specific global links relative to theà question, instead of focusing on a similar situation somewhere else in the world. For example, saying that ââ¬Å"China and Brazil both had Jesuit missionariesâ⬠is a comparison, not a connection. Arguing that ââ¬Å"European Jesuit missionaries were proselytizing in South America and winning converts. This happened in China as wellâ⬠does, however, draw an extra-regional connection because the term European Jesuits provides a specific reference showing how European practices affected South American beliefs. A strong essay would demonstrate greater nuance and sophistication, including the relationship between change and continuity. It might note, for example, that a change in the early part of the long period covered in this question became a continuity for the rest of the period: The introduction of Christianity was a change in Latin America/the Caribbean, but then Christianityââ¬â¢s presence and expansion became a continuity. Similarly, nationalism developed as an ideology beginning in the eighteenth century, but it then became a continuity and has remained so through the present. A specific example of syncretism, such as vodun, could be introduced as a change when it first developed, but the process of the syncretism of different beliefs, ideas, or artistic forms is a continuity across the entire time period. The best essays will be those that do all of this, engaging their own content knowledge with the specific framing of the question.

Cases in global marketing strategies Essay
If you call yourself a movie fanatic, then 21 August, 2009 was a day you will always have to remember. Movie lovers and anyone who love going to cinemas were defiantly in a rush that day to be in any near IMAX Theater. In more than a hundred IMAX 3-D cinemas all over the world watched just 16 minutes preview of the footage from the new James Cameron movie the Avatar. Just on the same day, Ubisoft debuted a preview on a video game based on the movie, and Mattel unveiled action toys based on the movie characters. On the other hand, a day earlier, the teaser made for this movie broke records on Apple.com, this was after the teaser was streamed more than four million times during the first day. On that day August 21, it was a celebration for all movie lovers and movie productions and for that it was a holiday and till now it is remembered as ââ¬Å"Avatar Day.â⬠Today it is remembered as the dawn of the most planned and successful digital marketing campaign ever created to support a movie (Evan, 2011). In this movie James Cameroon and his crew went to all limits and for sure they deserved what the movie gave them in return. For Avatar to stand out above the rest of the movies as it did, there are a lot of strategies and plans which were put in motion for all this to happen. Below are some of the details of key components of how the marketing campaign of the movie became such a success, in some I will illustrate with a character and creature within ââ¬Å"Avatar.â⬠The Home tree: Avatarââ¬â¢s Website The clarity and visual perfection of the home tree on Pandora portrays what has been cultivated on the movies official website. On the websites visitors have more than they can get on a standard trailer, this is by images and all background materials. In the website, you will find 14 side scrolling square boxes that will show a lot of digital products that make this movie different from the rest. On top of this the fans have the capability of accessing the story, character information, music, and picture downloads. And to make the website more interesting the fans can also be able to share their views and showcase their personal interests on the movie. In the movie just about when humans destroyed the home tree for wealth and pursuit of personal interests, the movies website home page had its own destructions in mid-August when the movie fans crushed the site in the process of trying to get free tickets for ââ¬Å"Avatar Day.â⬠The Banshee: The AIR Interactive Trailer The movies interactive trailer comes before other previous movie trailers, and this is all because of integration of social media feeds, and eleven points of interaction that gives viewers the opportunity for one click access to each character. This means that the fans can choose the characters they want to view in a trailer and by this they unlock additional contents. The creation of this trailer was made possible by the use of adobe AIR software, which creates a flexible platform for developers. The outcome of this achievement is that the fans get to enjoy more exciting experience like never before, which more of less the same as to the one is offered in Banshee skipping in the movie. The preview is a motion and frequently refreshed gateway to the movie, which appears to be real and capture the moment it begins. The other advantage is that the preview comes with three options to purchase tickets. The Tree of Souls: Social Media: In the movie the character Naââ¬â¢vi believes that in the tree of souls, which a resting place for the souls of ancestors, was the main link of what connected them to one another. Through this idea, there is a connection to social media that is always connected to our past in one way or the other. Social media being one of the fastest ways to pass information around all over the world, film movie makers had to use the advantage when marketing Avatar. The movies unbelievably got the attention it required on social sites for example it got about 1.5 million fans on Facebook alone, in Myspace the fans were about 800,000 and on twitter I gained about 26,000 followers. According to one of Americas social media analytic firm, they said that Avatar was the most talked about movie in the year 2010 in twitter. However, some tweets resulted to tweet and listen promotion that required the fans to send messages via twitter and after doing that then they will be able to listen to music used in the movie as soundtracks. The social media strategy Avatar used also extended to YouTube that gained over 12 million views, on flicker it got 1.5million people viewing the photos and a type pad blogging community of about 5000 people. Hallelujah Mountains: Augmented Reality In the movie, the gravity opposing Hallelujah Mountains appears to be challenging the ability to hear or see, which is also what had been made greater and reality pushes to do by tabling an interesting experience that floats in front of the viewerââ¬â¢s eyes. The creation of ââ¬Å"Avatarâ⬠toys which could be activated and brought to life through the help of webcams and special product tags. While on the other side Coke zero introduced soda cans that opened up a world of Pandora. The final result is that ââ¬Å"Avatarâ⬠is so far the biggest movie ever made in the box office of all times. This movie sold over $2 billion in tickets sales which was mostly influenced by 3-D taxes and international interests. Through ââ¬Å"Avatarâ⬠James Cameron became one of the greatest movie makers of all time having two of the top-grossing movie topping on the box office at the same time. The question remains to be what lead to the success of this movie? The primary objective of any marketing strategy in the movie industry is to make sure that the fans get the product you are marketing. While at the same time gets to theaters to watch the movies that they have to pay about $10 to $15 and have to watch the movie for several hours. After the campaign made by the advertisers, millions of people all went out to theatres just to enjoy the movie and 3-D glasses, and the fans also got to bring a phrase from the movie to life which was used by Naââ¬â¢vi: Oel ngati kameie meaning ââ¬Å"I see you.â⬠This is the processes in which the improvements in the movie made it unique as compared to other films. However, they are not just the only methods James Cameron used to make ââ¬Å"Avatarâ⬠a success in the digital movie era. The introduction of 3-D camera and stimulcam were not just the technologyââ¬â¢s that turned James Cameronââ¬â¢s sci-fi unique and a success. Many other small movies have also turned to social media to spread the word guerrilla-style, but so far no other blockbuster movie has turned to social media marketing like Avatar did. After using this method to market its film, the results they got from the first opening weekend Avatar made $232 million and ranked the movie on #2 highest grossing movie of all times. Cameronââ¬â¢s $500million act of hubris finally bared fruits. Reinventing the Movie Trailer Online Knowing that Avatar was never the first film to make a trailer in a different manner online. Then it means that it was never the first to try out most of this things required for online advertising. But using an expensive strategy, and at the same time combine it with several existing ideas was what made this movieââ¬â¢s social media campaign go big. In the beginning it started with ideas which many movies use now: a preview debut from Apple, which was announced on twitter and the anxiety was too high from the fans to such an extent that the servers had to get the trailer out to the people who wanted it. Afterward, about a month later the movie released the second trailer, this became a success since many fans were eagerly waiting to see the trailer for a whole month and with that the fans made their own mash-up trailers which involved Avatar and other movies. However, after making the second preview they did not stop there and they went forth and made the third trailer and to their surprise the preview was the best they had achieved so far, and to an extend it blew everyone away beyond their expectation. An interactive preview was introduced using Adobe Air software and therefore in required one to download that is a bit hectic, but to all Avatar fans the download was worth it. The download had special features such as featured contend, and the fans could read all updated social media updates on the movie from the trailer. This move was the biggest move that Avatar had taken since it got press coverage and buzz (Dave, 2011). The Facebook and MTV Webcast On 3 December, Facebook joined forces with MTV.com and were sponsored by LG webcast known as ââ¬Å"Avatar Live.â⬠An interview was made to get word from the great minds behind the creation and success of the movie and this were people like James Cameron the Director, the producers Jon Landau, the Actors Zoe Saldana and Sam Washington. In this interview, the fans also got to ask them any questions they wanted to about the movie. Even though the interview can be said to have been short and brief, it is still considered to be one of the amazing webcast to have been seen up to date (Mitchell_A_Zucker) . This is because it is not always that simple to see big Hollywood names all sitting at the same place answering questions from their fans all at the same time. Even though having the community come to interact with a director of such caliber is a once in a lifetime opportunity, it made us remember of director Peter Jacksonââ¬â¢s daily updates from the famous set of The Lord of th e Rings. What was experienced in both cases is the fact that people who did not know much about the movies also turned out for the sale and learn more about the film while on the other hand the fans also showed up in large numbers to also get to know all what they did not know yet and get new words to spread around to friends and other people they interact with. Broadcasting the Premiere Live On UstreamOne of the most respected way for any celebrity or movie to go down is by using the red carpet. Avatar was premiered at the red carpet and broadcasted live to the audience on a video streaming site Ustream. Besides the technology media coverage this pulled, this idea was not a new stunt since movies like twilight saga New moon had already put it on trial, however, we can say it made many people happy that day. The point is a movie should use all ways possible it gets to get the awareness of the movie out. This broadcast made at the red carpet was sponsored by Myspace, and with this it means that the move reached fans who got to miss the presentation in Facebook or any other social media site. The fans of Avatar had the opportunity to watch the preview and the video in bot Myspace web page in addition to Ustream website. The fact that the red carpet was one week before the movie was released and aired in cinemas was another way to get the awareness of the movie to the fans during the final days of marketing before the final release date of the eagerly awaited movie. Avatar is one of the most thrilling Sci-fi, fantasy, adventure movie ever made. The story line is with no doubt captivating to the audience. Due to these features it was made easy for Cameron and his crew to market the movie since all the fans were thrilled and eager to see the movie after watching the trailers offered on the movie. However, in marketing Avatar the movie had to also come up with action figures which would symbolize the characters and through this they got to attract more children fans to get to buy the toys and also want to watch the movie (Dave, 2011). Coming up with unique posters of the movie was also another marvelous move Avatar came up with, since everyone who was a fan wanted to at least have a poster of the movie in the house or even in their bedrooms and through that all the friend of people with the posters would end up being drawn slowly into liking the movie. According to (Mesa, 2009). another reason many people ended up liking the movie is the fact that we were all amazed by the work made by the make-up artist in the movie, actually they made the characters look so real in such a way that has never been seen before. The details on the characters and the make-up were just out of this world. Conclusion From this essay, it is evident that James Camron went to all measures to make Avatar such a success. However, many movies might have tried using the same marketing strategies but the little details and changes that James Cameron brought to the production and marketing of the movie are what actually made the difference and ended up make this movie the greatest movie of all times. However, this made it everyoneââ¬â¢s business to play the marketing roles which were to be played by everyone during the movie sale and we even see how the fans got the chance to market the movie and also comment on live updates about the movie. This time it is with no doubt that James Cameron overdid himself in this movie. Having such a big movie is not something people see every day it takes practice and experience to be what James Cameron is, but we cannot be so surprised about this since James Cameron had another blockbuster ââ¬Å"Titanicâ⬠which was also top of the box office before he broke his own record with Avatar. This movie ââ¬Å"Avatarâ⬠did not just be successful it changed the movie industry as we knew it and for that I have doubt that Avatar will be a movie that will be remembered for several decades to come or even a century.
